If you felt like your Reels or posts didn’t get enough reach last week or even this week you’re not alone.
As you know, I have almost 80 clients that I work with on a weekly basis and many of them complained about low reach.
People who normally have no problem with reach. Myself included!
It was just LOW.
And it makes sense.
There have been huge global events that have pulled people’s attention elsewhere, and engagement naturally takes a hit during these times.
But here’s the thing: this doesn’t mean your content isn’t good. It doesn’t mean the algorithm is out to get you. And it definitely doesn’t mean you should stop posting.
It just means people have been distracted.
So if your numbers were down, take a deep breath. Stick to your plan. Keep showing up. Your audience is still there, and when they’re ready to engage again, you want to be the one that they see.
So today I wanted to help you make your content as engaging as possible—which means using better hooks, specifically visual hooks.
Most people think a visual hook (like a big movement or a flashy transition) is enough to stop the scroll. But Adam Mosseri recently confirmed that Instagram ranks your content based on average watch time.
That means if people aren’t sticking around, your content isn’t getting pushed to more viewers.
So, let’s fix that.
Here are 4 hooks you can start using on your next post to make your content more engaging:
🔥 Caption Hook – The first line of your caption should stop your audience mid-scroll. Think of it like a headline, it should make them need to read more.
🔥 Text Hook – Placed in the middle of the screen, this tells your audience what your video is about in just a few words. Bonus points if you add a typing effect for extra engagement.
🔥 Storytelling Hook – Start your video with a scroll-stopping one-liner that either shares a bold take or taps into a problem your audience is already thinking about.
🔥 Audio Hook – Use trending sounds or sound effects to keep attention high. Your audience is already familiar with certain trending audio—use that recognition to your advantage. Don’t forget you can get one month of free trending sounds sent directly to your inbox from me along with ideas here.
