Welcome to the 6th issue of Notes from the Middle: We’re Kar & Maxim – a former Googler and a self-made marketer, building a business from CDMX while raising kids and hiding nothing.

I’ll be honest with you…I may have doubted this.
I had moments where I doubted if we could actually get to the numbers the big accounts throw around so casually.
You know the ones, the $100K launches and the $500K to million dollar years. The posts that make it look like it happened because someone figured out the right content strategy or perfect funnel formula.
Ever since I was in my early 20s (and likely sooner) I’ve always been a little impatient. Always wondering why things weren’t happening as quickly for me as they seemed to happen for others. I felt it in university when I was coming back to study after taking a gap year in Ghana and was a year older than everyone else. I felt it when I finished my BA and decided to study accounting and basically start four years behind everyone else in my cohort while going to night school to catch up. I felt it when I was working as a receptionist for a year while it seemed everyone else was moving quickly towards their amazing careers.
But that impatience really has no reflection upon my worth or my skillset – rather I think of it as a process of maturing, learning, and accepting that I am always exactly where I am meant to be.
I tell my clients constantly to trust the process, to do the unsexy work, to stop looking for the shortcut that doesn’t exist – and most recently this year had to actually live that advice myself in real time.
What happened for us this quarter didn’t happen because of anything we did in Q2. It happened because of what we did in November, in January, and in all the months where I was doing the work I didn’t want to do. What I call “the suck work”.
So yes, we had our best quarter yet, a nearly six-figure launch (GURL).
Now let me tell you how we got here and I’ll be sharing everything that worked for this launch in this essay.
In September, my husband Maxim joined me full-time in the business, and I don’t think I’ve ever properly written about what that actually meant or how we got there…
